Terms of Use

Effective October 3, 2026

These terms apply to the ExoExplorer app and to this website, exoexplorer.io. By using either, you agree to them.

Your licence to use the app

ExoExplorer is licensed to you through the App Store under Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the “Standard EULA”). These terms add to that agreement. Where the two conflict, the Standard EULA governs.

What ExoExplorer is

ExoExplorer is an educational visualisation of public astronomical data. It is not a scientific instrument, and it is not a substitute for the archive or the published research behind it.

About the data

Planetary and stellar values come from the NASA Exoplanet Archive and can contain errors, omissions and later revisions. Some values are calculated by the app, and those are marked in amber. Scenes are scaled and styled to be readable: Log scale compresses distances, small planets are drawn larger than true scale, faint stars are drawn brighter than they appear, and the nebula is decorative.

Don’t rely on ExoExplorer for research or any purpose where accuracy is critical. Check the NASA Exoplanet Archive and the original publications instead.

Generated summaries

Some summaries are written by an on-device language model. They are written only from archive values and checked against them automatically, but they can still be wrong or incomplete. Each summary says how it was written, so you can tell a generated one from a hand-written one.

Ownership

The app’s design, code and written content are © 2026 Jonathan Logan. Open-source components are used under their own licences, listed in the app under About › Open-source licenses. Archive data is provided by the NASA Exoplanet Archive.

No affiliation

ExoExplorer is independent. It is not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by NASA, the California Institute of Technology, IPAC or Apple. Names of organisations, missions and instruments are used only to identify sources of data. Apple, iPhone, iPad and Apple Intelligence are trademarks of Apple Inc.

Disclaimer and limitation of liability

The app and website are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent the law allows. To the extent permitted by law, Jonathan Logan is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages arising from your use of the app or website. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer protection law that cannot be waived.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. When we do, we will change the date at the top. If you keep using the app or website after a change, you accept the updated terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules.
